Stratford Town Academy Update..

It's been a few weeks since the last update regarding our academy due to the start of our season, education programme commencing and a combination of Academy league and Youth fixtures keeping us busy over the last two weeks.

Training with the academy over the last two weeks has had to be worked around our players playing for the Youth Team with Stratford and our satellite Stratford Juniors, the start of our National League Fixtures. We have made use of the good weather to put some hard fitness sessions into the players, used the access we have at Stratford Leisure Centre with our club sponsors Everyone Active for our players to have spinning & Pilates sessions, use of the fitness suite and also day after match days to have the facility to enable to players to go through a stretching programme and use the pool with sauna and steam rooms. So whilst during this period the lads have been kept busy we have also ensured they have quality recovery sessions to ensure they stay in peak physical condition.

Academy Matches.
We started our National League fixtures with a fantastic 2-1 home win v Sporting Khalsa, with players unavailable due to youth team fixtures that evening we used the rest of the players for this fixture, the lads worked hard from the off, played some quality possession based football and deserved to win the game after coming from behind.
We play away this week to Alvechurch and I am sure the lads again will be a credit to the academy.
Our 2nd team had a friendly fixture last week visiting Kettering Town FC to play their Future Lions team, and whilst we lost 3-1, the lads who played in very hot temperatures performed well but weren’t clinical enough in front of goal as Future Lions were, who deserved their win, but again this is a great opportunity for our players to play against a Conference Club Academy players and to help with their long term development.

Youth Team Fixtures.

Between our two youth teams over the last few weeks they have played league and cup games and a total of 13 academy players have been involved during those fixtures.
Stratford U18s drew away to Solihull 3-3 in the Midland Floodlit League and last week were unfortunate to lose 4-1 to Hereford in the FA Youth Cup
Our Birmingham team Stratford Juniors have continued unbeaten to the season, with 4 wins and a draw in their first 5 games and currently sit top of the table in their respective Southern Floodlit League. They played at Arden Garages last Wednesday and won comfortably 4-0, and again play this week on Wednesday evening at Hadley Sports Stadium in a cup fixture.

Whilst we are still recruiting for this year’s intake, we will be announcing very shortly our new trial dates for the new intake for next year. These dates will be announced to cover the next 9 months and the start of recruitment for current year 11s. We will be advertising this all over social media, local schools and visiting clubs to promote what our academy is about and the opportunities for development over the next two years and promoting our pathway to ensuring players have in place to enable them to also play for our youth teams, FC Stratford and potentially leading to our first team.We have created Links with local teams and school within our area and will be visiting these teams and schools over the coming months.

For further information on joining the academy for this year and for dates of this years coming trials contact Academy Manager Steve Walker 07891508177 or email or look on our website and other social media outlets over the coming days.
