Stratford Town U11 girls football team, following a very successful domestic season, travelled to Italy during half term for an amazing 4 days of football against some of the best teams in Italy. They started with an easy match against Cremona, winning 15-1 before travelling to Roveleto for a boys tournament. The girls caused a real stir not only due to being the only female team in the competition but also due to their fantastic passing play. They ended up 5th out of 20 teams which was a fantastic achievement. The next day they travelled to Milan for an U11 girls tournament hosted by Inter Milan. It was an incredible experience for the Stratford girls as national anthems were played and the tournament was live on TV. The girls successfully defeated Codogno, Parma and Uesse Sarnico before the long awaited game against Inter Milan academy. It was a tense affair, played in front of a very passionate crowd, with some great play on both sides. Whilst the final score was 1-1 Stratford had a further goal disallowed which the TV replay suggested should have stood so a moral victory was claimed! The final match of the tour was against Brescia with Stratford winning 1-0. The whole tour was a fantastic advert for girls football and an experience the girls won’t forget.
