Town take full advantage of all weather surface

The big freeze failed to deter local non-league clubs as the DCS 3G is utilised to good effect.

With Town volunteers clearing more of the 3G pitch during the morning, Redditch United were the first to train at the DCS Stadium on Saturday at a very crisp 9.00am.

Paul West’s Evesham United, who are regulars at the DCS Stadium, were next to train at 11.00am with Town taking full advantage of the limited sunshine at 1.00pm.

The day concluded with a late booking by Alvechurch who trained into the early evening.

Snow clearing

Volunteers and Supporters worked together to clear the snow

Town Boss Rod Brown said, ‘I’m really grateful to those supporters and volunteers who turned up this morning to help clear an area for us to train’.

Training in the snow

Craig Hughes continued, ‘We had a number of volunteers turn up this morning, who were all marshalled by Club President Sid Keenan. It was a time-consuming process but it’s times like thiRod Brown in the snows when you find out how many volunteers we have at the club’.

‘We wait to see what the weather brings for the rest of the weekend but we’ve now cleared ¾ of the 3G pitch and depending on whether we get any more snow overnight, the 3G is available for hire on Sunday’.

Rod Brown went on to say, ‘I brought the lads in today as it was very important to get some air in the lungs. The only absentee was Lucan Spittle who has a skin complaint. Although it doesn’t happen very often it’s the worst thing in football to get a period with no games. When we are playing and training players are able to maintain a sustained a level of fitness but if you get 2 or 3 weeks off that level will drop. That’s why today we worked the players very hard and for more than an hour of the It's all runningsession we worked without the ball. We will train if at all possible next week on Tuesday and Thursday where I have planned to work with Redditch and Evesham to give us some game experience’.
