Ladies Manager reflects on first half of season

Ladies Manager Ross Thorpe’s provides his closing thoughts for 2009.

Sundays Game at Home To Solihull concluded the first half of the season.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the players/staff for all their efforts since getting them back into Preseason Training on July 1. Naturally, it was disappointing to lose the game on Sunday but the overview of the 1st half of the season is a positive one that takes us into the New Year in a good position in the League but with a lot to do to maintain the healthy start we have had.

Everyone will start January 3rd as a fresh start to the season and we are no different - we welcome Bradwell to Knights Lane and that will be a very difficult fixture. That followed by 2 Away Fixtures at Cannock and Coleshill and the conclusion to the month a Home fixture to Hereford Pegasus, January is going to be a very tough month that will go a long way in determining our season I believe, after Christmas we have 11 Cup Finals and we all need to remain focused, we cant afford to worry about other results, we simply need to work to our objectives to achieve our goals !

Losing in the League Cup was very disappointing but that means the focus must now be our league position. I think anyone who watched the Solihull game would have definately been very entertained. I think both sides gave a good account of themselves however from our point of view, I was disappointed to concede 4 goals in the manner we did and good teams like Solihull will punish mistakes. At Half Time, I said to the girls - "Youve just got to go and give it everything", we where losing 3-1 and then 4-2 but the spirit of the 2nd half was outstanding, I had players who ran themselves into the ground on the day and that made me very proud. At times, results bear no relevance when you witness team spirit and togetherness like we showed.

We will go into the Christmas Break looking to recharge the batteries and comeback raring to go for the penultimate stage of the season. Theyre have been a number of positives to have come from the first half of the season and we will be working hard as a unit to sustain this in 2010.

May I Take This Opportunity To Wish You All A Very Merry Christmas And All The Best For 2010 !
