The Manager's Notes

Notes for 2009-2010

31st October

I think the impact of losing 5/6 key players over the space of 2 weeks definitely took it’s toll.

However I am sure some may construe this as an excuse for indifferent results. My experience tells me different. Building a brand new team is never easy, and understanding and blending in different personalities takes time. Fifth in the League at present isn’t where I thought we would find ourselves at this time, however 38 weeks is a long season and I must keep the changing room positive and focussed. After the disappointment of Alvechurch, I let the players know in no uncertain terms that I want my teams to play with passion and desire for this progressive club, if not, go somewhere else its easier.

The response they gave me against Brignorth was superb. The changing room felt better, the atmosphere was far better. There is a long way to go but I felt a small element of progress.

Unfortunately, I will not be popular with a small section of our fan base regarding releasing Jozsef Jakab. However, I think it needs to be noted that Joszef did very little pre-season due to a chest virus, then went to Hungary for 2 and half weeks at the start of the season ands unfortunately did not manage to achieve any level of fitness. Sometimes in football, difficult decisions have to be made and in my opinion I could not carry him any longer with his limited work ethic and it’s fairer to allow him to leave. On the back of this decision I chose to sign Matt Gardner and alongside both Matt Brown and Azariah O’Garro I look forward to working with all of them.
